The ever-innovative Gujarat Technological University’s initiative GTU – GIC welcomes startups from the state to avail the SSIP (STUDENT STARTUP INNOVATIONS POLICY) grant of Rs 200K for prototyping development. It is predominantly noted that across the startup ecosystem many ideas fail to take shape due to lack of funds.
To ensure such lapses do not occur and to create a level playing ground to all worthy ideas, GTU-GIC has been crusading. In its latest endeavor, it is supporting student initiatives through the SSIP grant, under which you can receive up to 2 Lakh rupees for prototyping development.
GTU-GIC has a notable track record of supporting 28 startups under this SSIP. And to give support to more has opened the registrations links that would close on 23-08-18.
The official clarifies, ‘we are looking for more such enthusiastic entrepreneurs who have the zeal to create something innovative, a product or a process or even a service, you are welcome at the Ahmedabad Centre (GIC) for any queries or more details.”
“Government of India has declared 2010-20 as the decade of innovation to unleash the creative potential of every Indian. The Government of India has also set up the “Atal Innovation Mission” and “Startup India, Stand-up India” mission to spearhead innovation movement across the country.” In lieu with the developments the Government of Gujarat’s SSIP ‘aims to create an integrated, statewide, university-based innovation ecosystem to support innovations and ideas of young students and provide a conducive environment for optimum harnessing their creative pursuit.’
“GTU has created multiple centres to facilitate Innovation and Entrepreneurship , and has set up GTU Innovation Council whose major 2 programs are Student Startup Support System(S4) and Co-Creation Centre(S4-C3), at Ahmedabad, Baroda, Rajkot and Surat through which the students/ Institutions can apply for the SSIP.”
The application criteria for availing this grant are:
- “The Innovator/ Entrepreneur can be a student in any Academic institution(preference would be provided for the GTU students), and can apply irrespective of his field, only criteria would be the student should be dedicated and working upon an innovative or a novel idea.
- The Innovator/ Entrepreneur can be an alumni, but should not have graduated before 5 years.
- A financial model isn’t necessary for the screening process but a priority would be provided to the students that would have plans to commercialise the technology.
- While having a team formation the team needs to agree upon what they wish to work and select a team lead that would primarily be the point of contact.
- Need to have atleast one member from the discipline under which the project/innovation can be categorised.
- Should be ready to create a startup/ enterprise after the project/ innovation is validated after the tenure and create Employment.”
