Teachers are revered in the olden days during the existence of GURUKULs as GURUs and their humble request was considered as an ordinance to their students. Times have changed and yet teachers are guiding lights, some realize and some do not.
Another important aspect that we forget to realize, is teachers create an indelible impact on us and stay back where they are but we move forward to rule the globe in our own domains. These humble souls have imparted what they possess equally to all of us, without any big aspirations or expectations only for our betterments.
One such teacher is ANNIE RAJAN an associate professor from DHEMPE COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCE of Panaji, Goa. This dedicated educationalist has created an audio format of a textbook in local language. Both the hardware and software were unleashed during a recent ceremony at the college.
In a candid chat with ANNIE RAJAN revealed “Audio textbook for Indian Regional languages are not available for low resource languages? We wish to provide solutions for learning regional languages using intervention learning methods. This way we wish to preserve regional language using Educational tools.”
The initial struggles faced, “I did not have any formal setup to build the audio textbook, so had to depend on many resources.” And continued that the core objective is building audio resources for other Indian languages and thus scale the coverage. Presently for Low resource Regional languages did not find any.”
The enthusiastic educationalist was awarded ceremoniously, “To mark the completion of 30 years of Inclusion of Konkani Language in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution Department of Indian Languages in Collaboration with Institutions Innovation Council (IIC) of DHEMPE COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCE Launched audiopustakam.com website developed by Mrs. ANNIE RAJAN, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science. Chief Guest for the event was Dr. RUSSEL D’SOUZA, Assistant Professor, NIRMALA INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION.”
ANNIE RAJAN advised ideators to “Follow what you feel is right, there may be many obstacles.” She Concluded, “Learning is more live and effective in classrooms supported by learning resources. Audio textbook in regional language will help students learn and grasp nontrivial concepts more quickly in their home language / mother tongue.”
